Description
Lord Palmerston on Sir C. Wood's unwillingness to leave the India Office and the disadvantages of his doing so. His assent to Queen Victoria's objections to the Duke of Somerset for the War Office and Sir George Grey (2nd Baronet) for the Admiralty. The impossibility of the latter's going to the War Office. Sir G. Lewis proposed in preference to Mr Edward Cardwell. Sir George Grey then suggested for Home Office and Mr Cardwell for the Duchy of Lancaster. The probability of Lord Herbert's (Sidney, 1st Baron Herbert of Lea) being forced to give up all War Office business. The Defence Committee's recommendations regarding Spithead and Chatham.
