DescriptionMelbourne refers to the failure of the potato crop as a dreadful thing, especially since it is the principal food of the people of Ireland, as well as of Scotland. No reliance on this. The best resource is the admission of foreign grain. Further expression of Lord Melbourne's obligation because Queen Victoria and Russell did not press him to take office on Peel's resignation.
