Date10 September 1841
WriterPeel, Robert, Sir, 2nd Baronet
AddresseeVictoria, Queen
DescriptionPeel, referring to Queen Victoria's objection to Sir Charles Bagot's appointment as Governor-General, explains his qualifications and services, and also points out the limitations of choice for such a post. Peel has told Lord Aberdeen of Queen Victoria's wishes concerning Sir Charles Bagot, and Charles William, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry [for him not be employed in any post of importance]. Peel again assures Her Majesty he will consult her before making any nominations [for diplomatic appointments]. Suggests that Lord Aberdeen and he should wait on Her Majesty. Peel acknowledges Queen Victoria's gracious reply [regarding his son being too young for a Household appointment].
