Description
Government's Financial and Commercial proposals brought forward [in the House of Commons]. Deficit anticipated - £2,400,000. Proposals - Income Tax, and taxes on coal exports. 3 percent taxes on Irish incomes. Peel says Income Tax in peace time is a novel proposal, and was better received than he anticipated. . Peel proposed revision of Commercial Tariffs. Reduction of duties on coffee and timber. Questions asked in the Commons [regarding Afghanistan]. Peel announced measures for reinforcements in India to repair the disaster. Presentation of Address of City of London.
