Description
Governor-General of India, Lord Ellenborough's despatch concerning the condition of prisoners in the hands of Akbar Khan in Afghanistan. Peels fears Ellenborough is annoyed by Press attacks on him [in the "Times"]. Peel sends Queen Victoria the private letter he wrote to Ellenborough before it was known that General Nott would advance on Kabul. Peel regrets that weekly returns have not been sent to Queen Victoria. They shall come in future. Points out that weekly returns are fallacious. Will send explanatory memorandum with quarterly returns. Peel comments on the returns in full.
