Description
Every indication of continued vexatious opposition [to the Chelsea Hospital Out-pensioners Bill]. Wanton waste of time. Peel's free comments on the debate and the opposition. Government unyielding. Mr Macaulay suggested a compromise, limiting the bill to five years. Government declined. Minority gave way, and the bill passed through Committee. Peel fixes the date for Prorogation at 24 August, and asks for Council at Windsor on 23 August.
