TitleLetter from Sir Robert Peel to Queen Victoria
Date15 October 1843
WriterPeel, Robert, Sir, 2nd Baronet
AddresseeVictoria, Queen
DescriptionPeel proposes the Bishop of Oxford (Dr Bagot) for Bishopric of Lichfield. The appointment to Oxford will require mature consideration. Peel will make a confidential communication to the Bishop of Oxford whether the exchange to Lichfield would be acceptable. The Archbishop of Canterbury thinks it of advantage to the Church for the Bishop to relinquish some of his preferments. (He is Dean of Canterbury, etc.) If the Bishop of Oxford accepts the See of Lichfield, Peel thinks the Deanery of Canterbury should be offered to Archdeacon Wilberforce (£2,000 per annum).
