TitleLetter from Sir Robert Peel to Queen Victoria
Date25 October 1843
WriterPeel, Robert, Sir, 2nd Baronet
AddresseeVictoria, Queen
DescriptionThe Bishop of Oxford declines Bishopric of Lichfield. Peel suggests Dr Cardwell, Principal of St Alban Hall, but proceeds, that an Oxford man is not suggested because while more Cambridge men have been appointed to Bishoprics, Queen Victoria's visit to Cambridge would make it more desirable. Hence stress laid on Mr Lonsdale or Dr French. Peel recommends Mr Lonsdale because of the Archbishop of Canterbury's letter.
