Title
Letter from Sir Robert Peel to Queen Victoria
Date
30 July 1844
Writer
Peel, Robert, Sir, 2nd Baronet
Addressee
Victoria, Queen
Description
Charitable Donations and Bequests Bill for facilitating endowments by voluntary grants and bequests, and for improving the Law in respect to Charitable Bequests in Ireland. Surprise at the opposition of some Irish Roman Catholic members; but orders had come from Ireland to oppose, many preferring a grievance to a remedy. Second Reading carried. Peel has reason to believe that he was under a misapprehension as to Lord Stanley's wish for immediate change. He rather wishes to move [to the House of Lords] at the commencement of another session.
