Description
Deanery of Lincoln vacant. Peel recommends Mr Ward, Rector of St James. Should he decline, Reverend Frederick Maurice, Chaplain of Guy's Hospital. Archbishop's high testimony. After allotting £500 pension (from the Civil List) to Lady Wilde [née d'Este], £700 remain. Peel suggests £200 to Lady Shee and £200 to Professor Forbes. Peel recommends £200 per annum out of the Pensions Fund for Mr Alfred Tennyson: 'A poet of whom competent judges speak most highly'.
