Title
Letter from Sir Robert Peel to Queen Victoria
Date
13 October 1845
Writer
Peel, Robert, Sir, 2nd Baronet
Addressee
Victoria, Queen
Description
Letter from the Bishop of Oxford. Having inspected the palace, he would exchange for Bath and Wells. Peel proposes to offer Oxford to the Dean of Westminster. If the Dean of Westminster accepts the See of Oxford, two Deaneries will be vacant - Westminster and Canterbury. The Archbishop's letter leads to a nomination of Peel's brother to one of these, but Peel suggests the first offer of Westminster to Lord John Thynne. If Lord John Thynne accepts the Deanery of Westminster or Canterbury, Lord Charles Thynne (his brother) might succeed Mr Peel in the Canonry of Canterbury.
