Title
Letter from Sir Robert Peel to Queen Victoria
Date
21 May 1846
Writer
Peel, Robert, Sir, 2nd Baronet
Addressee
Victoria, Queen
Description
Peel proposes the appointment of Sir Francis Doyle, Baronet, as Receiver General of Customs; Mr Charles Wynn applied for it, and Peel would be happy if some mark of Queen Victoria's favour could be conferred on the "Father of the House of Commons". He retires from public life on inadequate means. Peel thinks him too old for this office. Sir Francis Doyle is Wynn's son-in-law; hence Peel's nomination in consideration of Wynn's public services. £30,000 security is required from the holder.
