TitleLetter from Lord John Russell to Queen Victoria
Date31 October 1849
WriterRussell, John, Lord
AddresseeVictoria, Queen
DescriptionThe Bishop of London tells Russell that if Dr Wordsworth were named to Mr Milman's canonry, his present canonry would be suspended. Russell will therefore proceed with the original arrangement. Russell tells Queen Victoria that disappointment was great in the City of London at her inability to be present. Russell submits two letters from Lady Errol and Lord Melville, regarding apartments at Holyrood Palace. Russell says it is desirable to name a day of Thanksgiving. The Archbishop of Canterbury asks Queen Victoria to appoint a day. Sir George Grey thinks a week-day preferable. Russell concurs, and suggests dates. The Bishop of London is anxious for the Queen to go to St Paul's, but Westminster is better. Thanksgiving for freedom from war, tumult and pestilence.
