DescriptionRussell's motion for leave to bring in a bill to admit Jews to take the Oath of Abjuration according to their own faith. Agreed. [The bill brought in and read a first time.] Lord Ashley's motion to stop delivery of letters on Sundays throughout the United Kingdom. The Chancellor of the Exchequer opposed, but it was carried. The success of the motion largely due to agitation in the constituencies. Not popular with members.
