Description | Russell reports that several bills were forwarded to the House of Commons. Drummond's resolution to reduce the expenditure of the Government, and denouncing extravagance. Vague and incriminating, it caught the votes of Protectionists and Radicals. Lord Robert Grosvenor's amendment was defeated, and Drummond's motion passed without division. Russell says, 'It is not pleasant to be defeated, but Drummond declared he did not mean any censure on the Government.' |
