Russell, John, Lord
Addressee

Description
Russell refers to sad yet successful closing of the Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace, and then comments on the splendour of the conception, and the fame accruing to Prince Albert. The Monarchy must participate in the advantage derived from this great undertaking. No Republic of the Old or New World has done anything so splendid or useful. Necessary to hold an Investiture [Order of the Bath] for Colonel Reid who must start soon for Malta. Russell suggests Investiture [Order of the Garter] for Fitzwilliam before Queen Victoria leaves Windsor. Russell desires Cubitt, Paston and Fox to be in attendance at Council at Windsor to be knighted, and thus lend importance to the occasion. [In relation to their work in connection with the Great Exhibition at the Crystal Palace.]
