Letter from Lord John Russell to Queen Victoria
Date

Writer
Russell, John, Lord
Addressee
Victoria, Queen
Description
Metropolitan Interments Bill again in Committee, and vexatiously opposed. Cabinet unanimously agreed that there was no way out of the vote [relating to the Post Office]. Many members against the vote, but not to be depended on. Experience may produce change of opinion. Better after all to have the Commons [?Judicial] in religious matters than democratic in political course. Russell finally submits names for Commissioners of the Great Seal: Lord Langdale, Sir L. Shadwell, and Baron Rolfe. Russell will make search for precedents for Royal Peerages.
