Description
The Oath of Abjuration by Jewish Members of Parliament. The Commons engaged on Baron Rothschild's claim to take his seat in the Commons [as Member of Parliament for the City of London]. Russell will support him on one point, but will not vote for omitting the words 'On the true faith of a Christian'. Great excitement in the City. [The Baron had demanded to be sworn on the Old Testament]. Russell submits Lord Seymour's letters on Royal Parks, and concurs. Army Estimates: Remaining votes carried. Supply will not close before Monday, 5th August.
