TitleLetter from Lord John Russell to Queen Victoria
DateNovember 1850
WriterRussell, John, Lord
AddresseeVictoria, Queen
DescriptionRussell submits the name of Captain Manby, inventor of the Life-belt, for a knighthood. Lord Truro's letters affirm that the Vice Chancellors are officers of his Court, to be appointed by him but he asks what the practice has been. Home Office information, as usual, is scanty. Queen Victoria might be able to say what Sir Robert Peel or Lord Lyndhurst did in 1841-2.
