Title
Letter from Lord John Russell to Queen Victoria
Date
23 January 1851
Writer
Russell, John, Lord
Addressee
Victoria, Queen
Description
Russell says Lord Grey tells him that Mr Redington has a dispensation for wearing the Insignia of the Order of the Bath. Not necessary that there should be an Investiture at present. Mr Nicholls desires to retire from the Poor Law Board, in consequence of age and ill health - a serious loss. Russell suggests the appointment of Lord Courtenay, who has done exceedingly well as Inspector. Lord Ebrington proposes to retire on account of elimination of salary, which he thinks impairs dignity of office. Russell thinks Mr R.N. Grey (his private Secretary without salary) should succeed Ebrington.
