TitleLetter from Lord John Russell to Queen Victoria
Date12 February 1851
WriterRussell, John, Lord
AddresseeVictoria, Queen
DescriptionRussell returns the letter from the King of Portugal. From Sir Hamilton Seymour's dispatches Queen Victoria will see that the Portuguese Government is disposed to admit the principle of some of the British claims. The conduct pursued at Macao by the British Government, namely, to acknowledge a wrong, and spontaneously to endeavour to repair it, will go far to maintain friendly relations. Seymour deserves much praise for his conduct.
