Description | Russell has conferred with the Lord ChanceIlor respecting the office of Master of the Rolls which Lord Langdale has resigned. His proposals as to successors - either to appoint Sir John Romilly Master of Rolls, or Lord Cranworth Master, and Romilly Vice Chancellor. Lord Cranworth Russell considers a finer lawyer, but there would be an advantage in having the Attorney as Master of Rolls in the Commons. Russell recommends Romilly, explaining that the Master can sit in the Commons, but the Vice Chancellor cannot. |
