TitleLetter from Lord Derby to Queen Victoria
Date26 September 1852
WriterDerby, Edward, 14th Earl of
AddresseeVictoria, Queen
DescriptionDerby perturbed concerning communications with the Duke od Cambridge as to the Command of certain regiments and explains the circumstances. Derby requests that the Duke's appointment to the Fusilier Guards should not be immediately gazetted, since Lord Stratford's answer as to exchanging the colonelcy of the Coldstream Guards, for the Fusiliers, is not yet received. Derby refers to announcements in the newspapers that he was appointed to the Wardenship of the Cinque Ports. He knew nothing of it, and supposes it came out of the public impression that the post was usually conferred on the Prime Minister. Derby will assume temporary charge of office during Lord Dalhousie's absence if Queen Victoria thinks fit, and surrender it on his Lordships return from India.
