Description | Derby sends Queen Victoria the letter from Sir Henry Ward, explaining the grounds on which he was compelled to prorogue the Parliament in the Ionian Islands immediately on the opening. Despatches not having arrived, Derby says expressions of opinion would be premature, but can only think that Ward was firm, and should be supported and his conduct approved. Derby feels that the Constitutional Government granted, and privileges, was a political error, productive of serious embarrassment in the future. |
