The desirability of appointing him to the Lord Lieutenancy of Ireland, in the event of its becoming vacant. Chancellorship of the Exchequer refused by Mr Cardwell. Proposal to offer it to Sir Francis Baring. Sir Robert Peel, 3rd Baronet, suggested as Clerk of the Ordnance, on the retirement of Mr William Monsell (after 1st Baron Emly).
