Description
Four regiments under orders for India, to proceed to China in the first place. Mr C. Shaw Lefevre's intention of retiring as The Speaker at the General Election, reported to Queen Victoria by Lord Palmerston. Reminder of the custom of promoting The Speaker, on retirement, to the House of Lords. Invitation to Lord Palmerston from Lloyd's to allow himself to be nominated for City of London. Lord Palmerston on the regret of many members at the votes given by them on the China question. Reports of the feeling in the country and the prospects of the election.
