Description
Lord Bessborough [Lord Lieutenant of Ireland] is putting much pressure on Queen Victoria to visit Ireland. The visit must be undertaken one day, and the Queen would like to accomplish it done as she finds it disagreeable that people should speculate on whether she dares to visit that part of her dominions. When undertaken, the visit must be successful and much will depend on it being at the proper moment. The Queen wishes the visit to be a national event which will produce permanent good, and not for it to be a transitory advantage to a particular Government. As the visit is a State Visit it must be done handsomely and not fall on the Civil List's funds.
