Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
5 March 1847
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria does not object to the holding of a Fast Day for the famine in Ireland, if that is generally wished for. However, she feels that Fast Days belong to older times and are hardly appropriate now. Lady Erroll has resigned the lodge in Richmond Park given to her by William IV [her husband the 18th Earl of Erroll had died in 1846], and Queen Victoria wants to offer it [Pembroke Lodge] to Russell.
