Description | Viscount Palmerston [Foreign Secretary] has seen the Queen. He informed her that his proposition regarding Portugal was to come to an agreement with France and Spain to propose a joint mediation to the Queen of Portugal, offering just and fair terms to the Junta which, if not accepted, would be enforced by the troops of France and Spain. Queen Victoria is satisfied with this proposition, and hopes no alteration to it will be made in the Cabinet. Lord Palmerston said the terms to be offered to the Junta would probably be the same as were contained in his draft to Col. [William] Wylde in February, and Wylde should be the bearer of the terms. |
