Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
4 April 1847
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria explains what she intended to do after reading the instructions with regard to [Carl Andreas] Dietz [preceptor to King Ferdinand]. Anything like a demand for his removal by the English Government would be resisted by the Queen of Portugal; England cannot force his departure, and Sir Hamilton Seymour [Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Queen of Portugal] should try to arrange this without making a demand. Dietz intends leaving at the end of April, and it might be well to state that England trusted that he would not alter his intention and that he would leave Lisbon before his departure began to be talked of in public.
