Description | Queen Victoria forwards to Lord John Russell a letter from the Queen of Portugal, which shows that the departure of [Carl Andreas] Dietz [preceptor to King Ferdinand] will be a serious inconvenience to them. King Ferdinand has written to Prince Albert that he is ready to accept England's propositions, but that there should be a modification of the Article relating to the Amnesty, for the sake of the tranquillity of the country. Dietz is coming to the Levee tomorrow, after which the Queen will see him. She is anxious to know what course the Government intend to pursue, and what Viscount Palmerston [Foreign Secretary] has written to Sir Hamilton Seymour [Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Queen of Portugal]. |
