TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date19 July 1847
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionQueen Victoria approves the intended new coins: she thinks florin and farthing are very good names, but wishes that another name could be found for decimal. The Queen agrees to the appointment of Sir Denis Le Marchant in succession to Sir William Somerville at the Home Office [as Under Secretary of State]. Queen Victoria hopes it may be possible to prorogue Parliament on Friday, as Saturday is such an inconvenient day, and asks how Russell's election is going on in the City.
