TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date2 August 1847
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionQueen Victoria agrees to the date and time of the Council, and had already asked Lord Dalhousie to Osborne before receiving Lord John Russell's note. The defeats of Sir J. Hobhouse, Gen. Fox, Mr Hawes and now Mr Macauley are very strange and unexpected; the Queen hopes that Mr Goulbourn [sic - presumably Goulburn] will not be defeated by Lord Fielding. Queen Victoria hopes and thinks that the alarms about Portugal are exaggerated, and encloses Prince Albert's letter on the subject to Russell.
