Date22 August 1847
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionQueen Victoria says the news of Portugal is distressing; it is a peculiarly painful position for the poor King, whose good judgement and advice seem never to be acted upon. She regrets the departure of Count Mensdorff [Count Alexander Mensdorff-Pouilly?], as he was of great use, and consequently hated by the violent Cabrals. The Queen describes her voyage in Scotland, noting that that they have been enchanted with the beauty of the Western Highlands.
