Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
21 October 1847
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
With regard to the financial crisis, Queen Victoria wishes to know how money matters stand today. The Queen is pleased that Russell considers the proceedings of Lord Howden [Minister at Rio de Janeiro] with regard to the River Plate satisfactory.
The Queen has invited Mr Brooke and Mr P. Lee.
The Queen informs Russell that Lord Ducie, who is abroad and had tendered his resignation on leaving, has not yet received an answer. In view of his extreme lameness and absence from England for a long period, she feels she had better accept it. She asks Lord John to propose some names of Peers who might be selected to succeed Lord Ducie [presumably as Lord in Waiting].
