Description | Queen Victoria considers the state of Ireland most alarming, distressing and hopeless, and is anxious to know what measures are proposed. She would also like to see the speech, before it is submitted to the Cabinet. The Queen approves the appointment of Mr. Knyvett to the Rectory of West Harleston. With regard to Portugal, Queen Victoria states that it is not the King's fault if matters are delayed for so long: he is much hampered, and unable to do the good he wishes. She wonders if Sir Hamilton Seymour sees things rather "en noir". |
