TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date2 December 1847
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionQueen Victoria has received Lord John's letter proposing Charles Buller as President of the New Poor Law Board, Lord Ebrington as Parliamentary Secretary, and Mr [George] Nicholls as Permanent Secretary, and approves these appointments, thinking this arrangement very good. She wishes to know who will be recommended as successor to Charles Buller in the office of Judge Advocate [General]. Queen Victoria thinks that these murders in Ireland are atrocious and fill one with indignation. It is disgraceful that such savage acts should occur in a civilised country, and so near to England.
