TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date12 August 1849
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionGlad as the Queen would be to give the Living of Stamford Rivers to Mr. Cureton, she thinks that so large a Living would take up all his time and attention; and as it is very important that his valuable labours and researches should not be interrupted, it would be better to give him the vacant Stall at Oxford. The Living could then be given to whoever Lord John intended to recommend for the Stall.
The Queen and Prince have been detained at Belfast by a gale, but intend to sail at 2, as the passage to Loch Ryan is so short. They leave Ireland with real regret, and will never forget the unequalled affection and enthusiasm with which the poor Irish received them.
