Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria has learnt of the sudden death of the Bishop of Norwich with great concern: he was a very amiable and good man. She does not know Dr [Samuel] Hinds, but Lord John's account of him is so satisfactory that she has no hesitation in approving his appointment to the vacant see of Norwich. The Queen wishes the Bishop of Chester to be appointed Clerk of the Closet, and highly approves the appointment of the Reverend Arthur Stanley as Dean of Carlisle, 'both for his own sack & that of his Father'.
