Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
21 September 1849
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
The Queen wishes Lord John to correct a wrong impression which Lord Palmerston appears to be under regarding the appointment of Col. Hodges. She never received any communication from Prussia against Col. Hodges; her objections were entirely owing to her own opinion of him from his despatches, which from the first showed a strong leaning towards Denmark and a very partial view of the Danish question. The wish of the King of the Belgians for Sir Henry Bulwer was because he thought it would facilitate the removal of Lord Howard, who is not popular in Brussels, and does nothing for the society.
