Description | Lord John has given Queen Victoria the explanation she requested with regard to the extra Brevet. He forwards a copy of a communication he has received, and will answer the Queen that he will convey to 'Your Grace' her suggestion of a modified recommendation. While Lord John would prefer the rule that there should be no extra Brevet except for services on the field, he can consent to a list much restricted in numbers, with no more than a few names of officers who have served long in their respective ranks. He suggests Wellington should write to the Secretary of State for War, Lord Grey, and to the First Lord of the Admiralty, Sir Francis Baring, on this matter, and what they all agree to can form the subject of a final deliberation.
