TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date30 July 1848
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionQueen Victoria is delighted to hear that Lord Hardinge is to go to Ireland at once. It is most praiseworthy of him that he is willing to serve under Sir Edward Blakeney [Commander-in-Chief, Ireland] after his high position in India. It may sound cruel, but she fears and believes it would be better for the future peace of Ireland if the present situation did not pass without a lesson from the troops.
