Description | Queen Victoria announces her arrival in Aberdeen for her visit to Scotland. It was a smooth voyage until they 'opened' the Firth of Forth, and the Queen and the Princess Royal suffered very much. The Queen rejoices at 'the improved Account, as to outward appearances' and as to the harvest: but she fears that 'the snake is only scotched not killed', and that much will be required to set things right. Regarding the vacant Professorship at Oxford, Prince Albert is anxious to put forward Mr. G. Webbe Dasent, Master of Arts at Magdalen, as a candidate. He is the translator of the 'Edda', and has been greatly recommended to the Prince as an Anglo-Saxon scholar. |
