Description | Queen Victoria approves of the proposed line of policy, to be adopted conjointly with France, relative to Sicily, i.e. to make Sicily aware that no assistance will be given to them by France and England, but that these two Powers will stop the further progress of the war, and mediate on the basis of the legislative and administrative independence of Sicily under the Crown of Naples. This will secure to both parties that to which they have the most undoubted right. The Queen thinks that the same basis would be best for England's mediation in Upper Italy, as it would put an end to the dangerous struggle in that part of Europe. M. de la Cour's despatch shows the advantage and facility of that course, and the Queen requests a copy of this despatch. |
