TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date25 November 1848
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionQueen Victoria had thought of asking the Duke and Duchess of Nemours to Osborne for a few days, as she thinks that a change of air might be of great use to the Duke, who has been so ill; their means are still so small, as nothing has been sent to them, that they might be unable to go anywhere of their own accord. Their going to Osborne would be hardly noticed, but the Queen wishes to know if Lord John would object. She is very desirous to do something which would cheer them after their last two months of suffering and distress, but wishes to do nothing which would create any political embarrassment. She and the Prince are much concerned to see from the papers that Lord Melbourne has died; they have heard nothing from the family.
