Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
20 December 1848
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria notes that the Ambassador's question is raised again, yet it might easily have been avoided if Lord Normanby had not so eagerly followed up what he desires to obtain. It may still be stopped if he were told to remain passive, or to explain when he has an opportunity that it would be preferred not to have an Ambassador here. As the French profess to be willing to do what would please England, they should have no difficulty in conforming to England's wishes in this regard.
