Title
Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
7 January 1849
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
The Queen returns poor Miss Eden's touching letter, and is very gratified to see that the expressions of her sincere esteem for poor Lord Auckland and of sympathy in their grief has brought comfort to both poor sisters. She wishes to know what proposal Lord John intends to make for replacing Lord Auckland.
The Queen is very shocked at the sad accounts of illness and death among the children of the Infant Pauper School at Tooting. She is anxious to hear that there has been no neglect in their treatment and to know what led to this lamentable result, and asks Lord John to make enquiries.
