Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
n.d. [March 1848]
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria thinks that the political horizon of Europe is very gloomy; she fears many struggles and troubles. Lord Palmerston will have mentioned what passed about the Duke and Duchess of Montpensier [Antoine, Duc de Montpensier, the sixth and youngest son of King Louis Philippe]. Lord John will be sorry to hear that the French Royal Family are almost destitute, and that great fears are entertained that the Republic will sequester their property, which would be too infamous.
