TitleLetter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date6 March 1849
WriterVictoria, Queen
AddresseeRussell, John, Lord
DescriptionQueen Victoria is very grieved by the accounts from India, and filled with anxiety for the future. Lord John is quite right in supposing that she would entirely approve his proposal of sending out Sir Charles Napier as Commander in Chief. At such moments, personal feelings must be forgotten, and the East India Directors must feel that no one is so fit for the Command as Napier.
