Letter from Queen Victoria to Lord John Russell
Date
8 May 1849
Writer
Victoria, Queen
Addressee
Russell, John, Lord
Description
Queen Victoria is pleased to hear of the success of Mr. Frederick Peel: this must be such a happiness to his parents, particularly his father [Sir Robert Peel]. It is very satisfying to see any young man who promises to be of use in the service of the country, for England is not rich in rising statesmen. The Queen wishes she could feel more certain about the Division [re the Navigation Bill?], and hopes Lord Lansdowne will let her know the result early tomorrow.
